The Renaissance was a cultural movement developed from the 15th to the 17th century. It started in Italy in Middle Ages and later spread to the rest of Europe. Renaissance music is music written during this perod. It is usually divided in to three periods. Early Renaissance music (1400-1467) Middle Renaissance music (1467-1534) Late Renaissance music(1534-1600)

Other ways to vary texture.
Solo: Only one voice or instrument. Duet: A 2-part piece.TRIO: A 3-part piece.QUARTER: A 4-element piece. Unison: All voices or instruments playing at the same notes. Tutti: All instruments or voices playing the same notes. Doubling: One part playing exactly the same note as another. Descant: One part runs higher than the main melodies.

Renaissance Instruments

| HARPSICHORD
It looks like a modern-day grand piano.
It has a vertical strings that are plucked by a metal quill. The number of strings played at one time is regulated by stops, similar to those on an organ. |

| SACKBUT
The sackbut was an early kind of trombone. The bell was much smaller than the present-day instrument. |

| CRUMHORN
The crumhorn is a double reed instrument with a cap over the reed.
The player blows into this cap to produce a very soft tone. It had finger holes like a recorder and horned. There were different sizes like the recorder family. |

| CRUMHORN
The lute usually had 12 strings tuned in pairs stretched over a freeted fingerboard like a present-day guitar. The body had a pear-shaped box with the neck bent back. |
