NATIONAL SPORTS

Show picture in original size.
Robin, Cariena and Sophie!

Hello there! We are Cariena, Sophie and Robin. We live in the Netherlands and we go to school in Mijdrecht. We are going to tell you guys about national sports.

I'm Sophie and I'm going to tell you about; Football and Fierljeppen.
Football is a very popular sport in the Netherlands. The goal is to place the ball into the goal while kicking down the opposing running.
in the Netherlands we have a lot of football clubs. Young and older people can find a football game playing on.

Fierljeppen is a typical Dutch sport.
An atleet is trying to use a pole to bridge a large distance. ‘fierljeppen’ means in English ‘far leaping’. The pole is used to cross over the ditch. The sport comes from Friesland, a province in Holland.

My name is Cariena. I will tell you about two sports: Korfbal and Skating.
Korfbal is originally a sport from the Netherlands. The game is derived from the Swedish game called ringboll.
Korfball is a ball sport with a ball; you have to through the ball in a basket. Each team has a basket, and the team that scores the most goals wins. You play the sport with 8 players. In Mijdrecht we have a Korfbal association that called: Korfbal Vereniging Atlantis. The best Korfbal team from the Netherlands is in 2010 the Royal Scaldis Sporting Club.

Skating is another very populair sport in the Netherlands. The runner is an iron that is bound under the shoes, or the iron is attached to the shoes. Moving on the ice is called Skating. There are competitions on artificial ice. And if it freezes in winter  in the Netherlands, there will be also a `elfstedentocht`. That`s a contest were people are skating through eleven cities. Sven Kramer is a very famous skater.

Hello, I'm Robin. I will tell you about the sports: Tennis and Kaatsen.
Tennis is a game with a ball and a racket. One of the famous Holland’s tennis players is Richard Krajicek. Since he was 3 years he has been playing tennis. He won 100 great price’s. So his nickname become: The Flying Dutchman. He retired in 2003.

A absolutely Holland’s sport is : ‘’Kaatsen”. This sport comes from a provincie of the Netherlands: Friesland. The game is played on grass between two teams, each team has three players. It is very difficult to explain how the game works. Both teams can score to throw the ball in the "opslach". But it’s only a point when you throw it in a direct throw. The game is played the most in Friesland and the rest of the Netherlands don’t know the game, or don’t really know how to play.

We hope you will know more about the national sports in the Netherlands.

Greetings, Robin, Sophie and Cariena.
