SPORTS @ SCHOOL!

Janneke, Maaike and Juliette!
We are Juliette, Janneke and Maaike from Holland. We are three pupils from the school het Veenlanden College in Mijdrecht. We are writing about Physical Education at our school.

In the first form we had three hours of PE a week. This was divided over two classes of one hour and thirty minutes. After first class that becomes one hour and thirty minutes a week.
In winter we are in the PE halls in school, but in summer we are outside at Argon. That is a big complex with a lot of soccer fields outside.

In the first form we had a basketball tournament. With that all the first forms are divided in pools. All the pools play basketball games against each other. If you win you get two points, if you tie you get one point and if you lose you get no points. In the final, the two best teams played a game against each other. The winner of this game was the champion of the tournament.
In second form we had a volleyball tournament. It was the same as the basketball tournament.

We are now in the third form and now we have to teach in pairs of two PE lesson. You have to hand in a plan for your lesson. If your teacher disapproves your plan, you have to make up a new plan for your lesson. A week after you have handed in  your plan, you have to teach.
In your lesson you have to teach your class the sport you chose.

We always have PE outdoors in summer. We do that on Argon. On Argon we often play football. We also play baseball and we run round Argon. That is a lap we have to run for a grade. Then you have to run as fast if you can. Round Argon is a test for your condition. We also play javelin-throwing and archery if we have PE outside.

With PE indoors we have a replacement for round Argon. This is called the piepjestest. You have to start by the wall. You have to run toward the other wall when you hear a beep. If you hear the next beep, you have to do the opposite. It tells you in between the beeps what grade you are at. You have to persist as long as you can.
