I have recently watched an old Polish comedy called 'How I Unleashed World War II'. I have seen it many times, but every time it is great fun for me. The film was shot in 1969. There are starring: Marian Kociniak as Franek Dolas, Emil Karewicz as a gestapoman, Joanna Jędryka as Dolas's lover and others. The director and scriptwriter is Tadeusz Chmielewski.
The film is about a plain Polish soldier Franek Dolas, who, by shooting, accidentally starts World War II, because the Germans think that it is a hoot to attack Poland. Franek gets into a camp for prisoners of war. After a few attempts, he finally escapes. However, his bad luck makes him have a lot of funny situations. The plot takes place in a camp, in Austria, Croatia, Africa, on land, at sea and airborne.
A fantastic hero was created by Marian Kociniak. His character is remembered by millions of Poles. Almost everyone knows some quotations from this film. Each actor did their best, so the ending effect is brilliant. Also the music and scenery are great, as for that time.
I think this film is good both for fun and for learning history. It shows a funny side of this terrible time, especially when a gestapoman cannot write and say the hero's name- Brzęczyszczykiewicz. I can thoroughly recommend this film as a masterpiece of its kind.
