Rybnik is a beautiful town located in southern Poland, in the region called Silesia. It has a population of about 145 000 people with a large proportion of young citizens.Nowadays a lot of modern cities have face the problem of young people being addicted to tabacoo, alcohol or drugs. Rybnik is no exception.
Firstly, in spite of the fact that it is against the Polish law to smoke in public places, not many people seem to follow the rule. Similarly, smoking at school, althought strictly forbidden, is a very common phenomenon. The reason for such a growing interest in smoking among young people may be the fact that cigarettes are easily accessible. According to the law you are only allowed to purchase cigarettes if you are eighteen, but in fact no one asks for your identity card when you are buying them at a shop.

Secondly, a similar situation concerns alcohol. When walking around Rybnik in the evening at weekend you can meet groups of young people being under the influence of alcohol. Moreover, the police have also reported some cases of accidents caused by teenagers who decided to sit at the wheel although having consumed alcohol earlier.

Finally, there exits the problem od drugs. Fewer people take drugs than smoke tobacco or drink alcohol, but the numbers are growing. Most young people who take drugs such as ecstasy or amphetamines use them only occasionally. However, some become mentally addicted to them or move on to using hard drugs like cocaine, LSD and heroin.
To conclude, tobacco, alcohol and drugs consitute a real danger for young people. Thus, measures should be taken to make Rybnik a safer place to live. Compaigns should be launched to inform teenagers about the danger.More time and money should be spent on prosecuting people who break the law nad fighting drugs traffickers. Adapting some of these measures would definitely result in better conditions for young people.
