Webconferencing with both audio and video is available in eJournals. The Internet access for webconferencing must be at the level of ISDN at least. You need a loudspeaker and a microphone to be able to listen and to speak. If you want to have a full advantage of a live online session, a web cam is also a good prerequisite. You don't need any fancy equipment. A mono headset and a inexpensive web cam will do.
As a usser of any eJournal (or schooljournal) you can start using the Video Conference room in the easiest possible way.
1. Click on the Video Conference button in the Main Menu. 2. The booking page window will open. Check the reservations. 3. Book your own session in advance (Add your reservation).
Java needs to be enabled. When you login the window Java Starting will be shown and you will have to confirm that you trust the application.
If you use a computer of a network, for example of a school, it is possible that the firewall settings of the network prevent you from getting in. Then you have to be in contact with the network administrator, or some other person in charge, who can help you in this matter.

In the conference room

When the session is started you need to push the Ctrl button to speak. Only one is speaking at a time. You can adjust the volume of your voice and the sound of your loudspeaker by changing the adjuster. The microphone and the loudspeaker icons are in the left lowermost corner of the conference room. If a web cam was connected and available in your computer before the live session, the video window appears when you press on Ctrl button. The speaker can drag the video window to any place on the screen by mouse. If you are a head editor of eJournals you get the moderator right in the live online room automatically. Then you are able to moderate live sessions of your colleagues or of your students. For example, you can download a power point presentation by clicking on the corresponding symbol on the bar above the whiteboard. You can also capture and show your screen by clicking on the camera symbol and dragging your pointer to the application you want to show on the whiteboard. Moderator training is needed for professional use of webconferencing. You can read more about training of eJournalism in Project Help of eJournals. Click on the Help me! button on the navigation bar of your eJournal.

Please don't block the microphone
|

When you press the Ctrl button, there is a small blue cloud in front of your name. If there are more participants pressing concurrently, the number inside the blue cloud shows in which order they can speak. If you stop pressing you lose your turn. It is also possible to take your turn in conversation by clicking on the microphone icon on the left corner below. Then it often happens that the user does not remember to press the icon again after finishing his talk so that the microphone stays blocked from other users. If the participant does not notice it, the moderator has to log him out of the session. Of course, the participant can log in again :-).
