Ecological Footprint in Finland
Show picture in original size.
Finland's ecological footprint is on an average 8.4 hectacres. This means that if people on the Earth lived like us, we would need 3.5 globes. Our big figure  depends on a lot of things.

Almost every household has running water and electricity and we need to heat our homes in winter because of the low temperatures. That causes the majority of our greenhouse gases.

We have to use cars a lot because of the long distances in our country, especially in the winter when it's too cold to ride a bike or walk.
Public transport is very expensive and the connections are often quite bad.

The growing conditions in Finland are pretty rough, so we have to import a lot of victuals. If you want to buy Finnish vegetables in winter they are pretty expensive because we have to grow them in greenhouses. Also our cattle shelters need heating in winter.
