Seasons in Finland
There are four seasons in Finland. Winter, which we call "talvi", spring, which we call "kevät", summer which we call "kesä" and autumn which we call "syksy". All the seasons are very beautiful here and they are very different: in winter it´s cold, in spring it´s quite warm, in summer it´s very warm, in autumn it´s a little bit colder than in summer.

The summer is a very warm season. It´s over +10 degrees here, it might be even +20 degrees. We can wear much thinner and lighter clothes because of warm weather, for example t-shirts, shorts and skirts. In summer we can swim in the sea, we can sail and eat ice cream, which tastes very lovely! We can also go fishing in our many lakes. Our summer holiday is almost two and a half months. It is nice because the weather is usually very fantastic; the sky is light, the sun shines and there are just a few clouds in the sky. In the north we have "nightless night" which means that the sun doesn't set at all at midsummer. The trees are beautiful; the leaves are so green. We have a beautiful flowers too. The summer is the happiest season.

The autumn is next to the summer and it gets darker. Leaves are falling to the ground and the  sun doesn´t shine so much any more. The colours of autumn are orange, red, yellow and brown, and you can see these colours in leaves. Months in autumn are September, October and November. Autumn is very wet season, and then we have lots of rain. Many people can be very tired because it sometimes gets so dark and grey. In autumn the degrees are 0 to 10, so it´s not a very warm time of the year.

The winter is after the autumn. Months in the winter are December, January and February. In the winter, it can be very cold, sometimes over -30 degrees, but usually it is 0 - -20 degrees Celsius. If you want to be warm, you have to wear very much clothes. But the winter is a very beautiful season. In the north of Finland the sun doesn't rise at all around Christmastime. This is called "kaamos". You can see the stars vey clearly and if you are lucky even the northern lights. In winter we have lots of snow and fresh air. And children can make snowmen, go skiing, play ice hockey and skate, because water is frozen. It´s very nice, that we have snow at Chrismas. But after the long winter and cold weather, it´s very nice to know, that the summer comes (with warm weather), if you wait.

The spring is next to the winter, and it´s a very light season. It´s much warmer than the winter, degrees are 0-10, so it´s as warm as the autumn. In the spring, the sun starts shining, so snow and ice melt. In February and March we have unbelievable days when the sun shines from a clear sky and the snow reflects the light. After the ice has melted boat traffic starts on the lakes and the sea and people can start fishing. Birds are singing, the ground becomes green and flowers start growing up. Many birds come to Finland, for examble swans, and you can see them in rivers and fields. The spring is a very beautiful season, because it´s so near to the summer.
