Jari Sillanpää

Jari Sillanpää is one of Finland’s most famous artists. He became famous in 1995 when he won “Seinäjoen tangomarkkinat” tango contest. Jari Veikko Sillanpää was born on the 16th August 1965 in Ludvika, Sweden. Since his childhood he has been interested in music: he played many instruments such as the piano, the flute and the mandolin, and he also sang in a choir for many years in his youth. Gradually, Sillanpää started to prefer singing alone. In 1987-94, before his musical career really started, he studied singing in "Oulunkylä Pop & Jazz Conservatory" and worked as a model in Sweden, Spain and America and later as a waiter in cruises between Sweden and Finland.

In 1993 Sillanpää joined "Seinäjoen tangomarkkinat" tango contest and was among in the ten best, and the following year he got "the tango prince" titel. In 1995, he won the whole contest. After Sillanpää's victory he started to make records. His first record, "Jari Sillanpää", came out in the same year. In the summer of 1996 came out his biograpfy. The following Christmas came out a Christmas record, "Hyvää joulua", which broke soon a 80 000 sold records limit. Over these years Sillanpää has made over 20 records, which have been very popular. In 2005 Sillanpää got a remarkable price called "Iskelmä-Finlandia".

Sillanpää is connected to India through his godchild Francis Zavier. Sillanpää has fans in every age group all over Finland. He has stabilised his position in Finns' hearts.
