Welcome to Tartu!
Tartu, with its population of 101,246 (Population Census data from 2000) in an area of 38.8 square kilometres, is the second largest city of Estonia. Tartu, lying 185 kilometres south of Tallinn, is also the centre of Southern Estonia. The Emajõgi River, which connects the two largest lakes of Estonia, flows for the length of 10 kilometres within the city limits and adds colour to the city. The first written records of Tartu date from 1030.

Travel to Tartu
If you travel by plane you have to fly to Tallinn and continue your journey by bus to Tartu from Tallinn bus terminal. The journey will take you 2,5 hours in a comfortable bus and you will have Internet on board!!! Costs are 150 Estonian crowns, which is about 10 euros. Upon arrival in Tartu you are almost on the doorstep of the Conference Hotel: Hotel Dorpat.

Tallinn bus terminal is situated quite close to the only airport Tallinn Ülemiste Airport and you can take a taxi or public transportation to get there. As Tallinn airport is a relatively small one, it is easy to find the area where public transportation and taxis are waiting in front of the building. It is a short distance by taxi and it should not cost you more than 100 crowns to get to the bus terminal. It is also possible to use public transportation, bus No. 2 from the airport stops not too far from the bus terminal (the “Autobussijaam” stop), but you still have to cross 2 intersections to reach to the bus terminal. A ticket on Tallinn public transportation costs 15 crowns if you buy it from the bus driver.

Check out the bus timetable for your transport from Tallinn to Tartu and vice versa.
