Description of Istanbul
Istanbul is the best city I have ever visited, even better than Paris, at least for me.
I was in Istanbul in 2008, four years ago, when my husband and children gave me this trip for my birthday. In August we went to Istanbul for 15 days. We used to travel together twice a year, at Christmas and in summer.
Istanbul is the biggest city in Turkey. It has about 500 km2 but this is no problem because the public transport is very cheap and fast and there are many very cheap taxis too, so tourist don´t have any problems to visit all the city.
In Istanbul we can see almost all art styles: Roman Art, such as The Thermes, Christian Art, as Santa Sofia and, over all Islamic Art. I think Istanbul is one of the Muslim cities with most mosques in the world.
The Blue Mosque is the main in the old town. It´s the biggest and the most beautiful one in Turkey. It has five towers, tall and narrow, and they seem to touch the sky.
Inside the mosque, the lights are wonderful and the space is very quiet. Outside, the Souk is an incredible place, a gallery of different kinds of people as snake charmers, fortune-tellers … It´s a spectacle for the eyes!
The Bosphorus Strait is a great place too. In the evening a lot of people go to the Bosforo to see the shiny blue Mediterranean. The sea looks like gold at sunset!
But there are some problems in the city: Istanbul is very noisy, untidy, dirty and polluted. There are awful traffic jams and the city is always full of tourists. This is the worst thing for me.
However the city is safe, amusing and lively. I would like to go back there again.
