Nowadays there is a considerable amount of people travelling regularly. It is all due to low cost flights, which have increased the number of passengers who can afford the new prices to travel by plane.
On the one hand, the main advantages are related to those who do not have much money to travel abroad. Some years ago, flying to Japan from Spain, or within European countries, was unlikely to happen to most of the population because of their salaries.
On the other hand, competitiveness is now wider between airlines than ten years ago. It means that going on holidays could be a nightmare if you travelled with a low cost company like Vueling or Ryanair. For instance, long waits at airports or lack of coordination between schedule connections might be tiring and carry on disastrous consequences. While Iberia or Ryanair raise their benefits, customers spend too much time waiting for delayed flights.
However, business executives have enough money to travel first class, thus they do not waste time. Besides, business people have improved their companies and have increased the number of contacts to trade with. In general terms, we can see a dramatic upward trend for business issues and commercial areas, such as Zara empire, thanks to the boost of low-cost flying options . Small shop owners can also buy cheaper merchandise in India or Taiwan instead of in Spain or Portugal. Alas, this sharp rise in business causes drawbacks in other fields, such as environmental problems, aggressive consumption, commercial competition and so on.
In my opinion, flights should not be taxed more. Prices should be fixed thinking about a wide range of people and wages, independently of the airlines' profits. Thereby, everyone must find his flight according to his necessities, salaries and holidays timeline.
