A COLLECTION OF BLOG ENTRIES ABOUT THIS WINTER'S WEATHER
Last week, the weather in Coruña (where I live normally) was absolutely cold. Usually, you must know, Coruña's weather is very humid and windy, sometimes a litte chilly. In this place, the umbrella doesn´t work at all , but as a matter of fact, the average temperature is not bad, in winter, 13 degres (I think). Nevertheless, I repeat, it was freezing at some moments. So when I stay at home and outside it is pouring or snowing, inside I feel safe and sound.
Today (Monday 19th) in the morning, I was running with a couple of friends along the Promenade: during the race (roughly 10 Kilometers) the weather conditions changed several times, for instance, when we arrived  at the Tower of Hercules, (it's difficult to believe) the sun WAS SHINING!!, then near the Tryp Hotel a big HAILSTORM began. In a matter of few minutes we were completely soaked and we had a hard time to finish the race.

Yesterday it was a rainy day in Coruña, as usual. Though I'm used to getting soaked wet I can't avoid getting angry every time that happens. Yesterday morning I was walking near the football stadium when it started to rain heavily; in a few minutes there was so much water around me I couldn't believe it! From the stadium's roof fell a waterfall and the water gushed out from the gutter as well. By the time I got home I was completely drenched and I hardly had any time to get changed before my French class!

When I got up the radio was broadcasting the news and my son was screaming: “Mum, it's snowing!” My husband was having lunch with some friends, so I decided to go shopping with my son in different Shopping Centres because I wanted him to see the atmosphere at Christmas.
It was awful, because there were a lot of people in the car parks and shops and we couldn't see almost anything, but we had something in a café.
When we came back my husband had been watching on TV the news that he hadn't heard on the radio: strong winds with frequent showers and snow. He had been worried all the afternoon thinking he should have gone with us. It probably wouldn't have been a bad idea because all us would have spent a much better afternoon.

The North of Spain is on alert, especially Galicia. Classes were cancelled today in Lugo and A Coruña because of the wind. Some parents didn’t know schools were not going to open, and they had to decide what to do with their children quickly. But for me it was almost a normal day. I could go to university in the morning and I didn’t find any remarkable problem. In my opinion, the area of Riazor is one of the most dangerous on windy days, but I don’t live near there, so I couldn’t see the waves caused by the bad weather.

I have been living in Coruña for seven years, and I don´t remember such cold. In our flat we don´t have central heating and some days we are completely frozen. When we go out the are very strong winds so using the umbrella is impossible.
I suppose the most affected are those who need to travel because of their job. In my case, I try to stay at home. When I can, I only go out to do the shopping or to class.

Yesterday morning I was about to get up and just before my alarm went off, I woke up … It was raining really hard and the rain was making so much noise against my roof, it was a really annoying noise. I got up and got ready for class … it was still raining so I took my umbrella, which almost broke because the wind was blowing very hard.
I arrived at my university just in time not to get soaking wet, because as soon I stepped into my class it started raining and even harder, I could see the lightning through the window. I went back to my house at two o’clock and luckily it wasn’t raining any more.

In Galicia it usually rains and it is sometimes very cold in winter. The weather has been awful for these last few weeks here. There were a lot of rain and snow. It has also been very cold and windy.
Because of this weather a lot of people have flu. In fact, my boyfriend has flu and he hasn’t been to work for two weeks. I haven’t had flu but I had a sore throat and strong diarrhoea. Now, I only have earache.  Many people fall ill in winter because there are many changes of temperature.

This winter is being very strange, maybe it can be because of Global Warming, it´s colder than the others, it rains a lot and the wind is very strong.
This weekend was incredible, there were gale-force winds (about 150 kilometres per hour wind speed, and even more), the schools were closed and the government recommended not to go outside. People say that it was harder than Hurricane Hortense, I don´t know because I was very young but in my house (it´s a 15th floor) I could notice the movement of the building and the lamps moved a lot… I was very frightening.
Maybe we have to get used to this extreme weather.

It was the most heard piece of news on TV during the week. All the news programmes talked about it: the gale that was going to  affect every single Spanish place, principally the north. The weathermen had never been so busy.
Everybody was warned, ready to follow all the advice that had been given by the experts.
Nearly at midnight the gale arrived. I was at home, sleeping, when a terrible noise woke me up, making me jump up from my bed. Quickly I went to the window to see what was going on. Surprised I observed how chaotic the situation was. The lonely streets were full of broken trees, rubbish, advertising posters ... everything was a mess!

The weather has been cold and wet since the new year started.  I don't like this kind of weather because it forces me to stay at home. Besides the lack of light makes me feel just a little bit depressed, but maybe we must think that "It's winter", so it's the time for this.
Yesterday night I received a ring to tell me that "The Schools in La Coruña and Lugo would be closed today because of the bad weather". We are on "Orange Alert". I imagined a thunderstorm, a lot of wind so I thought "It's a good idea close schools" but It's 6.30 pm and I'm still waiting for the storm. My kids, like others, were at home all day because of the weather and I wonder what is the reason why someone has decided that today would be an "orange" day?
