LOL (2009) by Lisa Azuelos, with Sophie Marceau
|
The title "LOL" stands for "Laughing Out Loud," (which means "mort de rire" in French) language MSN. It is also Lola’s nickname , Anne’ daughter .
Summary : Lola is a schoolgirl. At the beginning of the schoolyear, she learns that her boyfriend Arthur has an affair. She invents a story that she has an affair with someone else during the holidays. She breaks up with Arthur and he insults her. Arthur’s best friend , Maël, falls in love with Lola and they go out together, until Lola believes that Maël has an affair with Isabelle. At home, it is the same: there is a lot of tension with her mother. One day, she is upset by the chaos of Lola’s bedroom, starts throwing all the stuffs of her daughter on the floor and there she finds her diary and she reads it. After this event, a big argument

breaks out and Lola goes to her father’s. Lola quickly reconciles with her mother and with Maël during the trip to England.
Film critic : I loved this film because we do not get bored: we want to know more. I think all teenagers are not like those of the film and it is very exaggerated. Drugs are everywhere and alcohol. When parents see this film they might believe that teenagers are like that, but it is really not the case for everyone! This film has some parallels with “la Boom”: relationship between parents and children, romantic relationships of parents and also children. But there is a difference of age between the group of friends of both films: in “La boom”, they are in highschool whereas in LOL, they go to grammarschool, so we can not really compare everything.

German teacher of her daughter. Finally Vic's parents are reconciled and it is the same for Vic and Mathieu. For her birthday, she can hold her first party at her grandmother’s.
Film critic: We loved this film even though it does not correspond to our generation (different music, dress fashioned, the way children talk to them), but it has many common points with us. The complicity of Vic with her grandmother is superb.
