The Idea of Community School
|
|
Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storms but to add colour to my sunset sky. We just added colour to Borni School.

| Mrs. Bilashini Devi (The Principal)
This past year at Borni Memorial English School has been outstanding. Our students did very well in the last exams.
This year we have introduced sustainable development programme. The purpose was to foster change, positive attitude toward community development and education. Children have fun while learning and increasing their understanding.
Parents and sponsors are welcome to give suggestions to the School for moral and academic progress of the students. The School is very thankful to you for regular feedback and support.

| Being conscious about the environment as well as about reducing our carbon footprint, paints which are environmentally friendly and durable are been used for painting the building. There are plans to grow wall creepers especially on the retaining walls instead of painting them. Nevertheless, we are using local paint, mix lime with colour. A major work has been the cleaning and repainting of the whole school building and fixing the roof for water storage. |

| The idea of Borni school is based on a concept of a community initiative developed and managed by the community members themselves. SHIGF was to identify a place to use as a school, approach qualified individual within the community who could teach their children, agree with them what was able to contribute to support them. In many cases, Borni School could manage to “employ young men and women who did not have good result to enter college or look for a job. These teachers have a desire to contribute to education of their community. As part of government commitment to education, they inspired Borni school as key providers of education accounting for nearly 300 children in Pangantabi-Manipur. SHIGF drew up a memorandum of understanding to supporting Borni with educational materials, provide funds for infrastructure development, deployment and training of teachers, which included payment of a certain number of teachers’ salaries. This only applied to those that had necessary teaching qualification. However, SHIGF has been very slow in implementing this clause and many teachers teach for a short period of time so that they can look for food for their families. This situation has compromised the quality of education.
In this project SHIGF will play a pivotal role in co-ordinating the various role players through the formation of a network in the district.

Renovation of the School Building is a great improvement for Borni School this year. The building was completely renovated. It is more spacious. The classrooms walls and roofs supports our ecological goals. The children and parents are happy in this spacious and cherry looking School Building. There is more space for more children too.
