NATURE AND HUMAN ACTIVITY
|
|
Water is the soul of the landscape. It is the source of life, the provider of beauty for all the senses and the oldest companion for human beings. Ancient civilizations grew by streams and rivers. Wells were venerated as sacred places. Everything in wild nature was supported by water. Even human activities were shaped by water: millers, dyers, quarrymen, farmers built their houses and workshops by rivers. Then, the first factories took their places but water kept on offering its benefits. However, human pressure, greed and lack of sensibility have interfered in such a way with nature that many of our rivers have become dumps, others have been either dried up or invaded. In some cases the aggressions have been so severe that the riparian forests by their banks have suffered great loss. We want to pay an homage to our rivers gathering as much information as we can about nature and human activities. May this knowledge make us wiser! Valentina Cuadrado
